IMSD Alum, Trainees Connect During 6th Annual Samuel M. Nabrit Conference

The 2024 Dr. Samuel M. Nabrit Conference for Early Career Scholars, held June 6-7 at Brown University, showcased the research achievements of outstanding molecular life scientists from historically underrepresented groups, and featured several current and former IMSD trainees. The conference, hosted by the Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Biochemistry Department, included former IMSD scholar Ayed Allawzi, PhD '16, on a panel moderated by the Graduate School's Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion, Alycia Mosley Austin, PhD, titled All Paths Are Open: Strategies for Success in Graduate School and Beyond.

Several current and former IMSD trainees also attended, presented, and contributed to the success of the 6th annual conference. Kimberly Meza served on the Conference Organizing committee for the third consecutive year and moderated a panel discussion with early career researchers, Charting Your Course. Dominique Walker (Therapeutic Sciences) and Melanie Ortiz-Alvarez de la Campa (Pathobiology) were in attendance along with several poster presenters including Raphael Britt (Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, & Biochemistry), Quianna Vaughan (Biomedical Engineering), Kimberly Meza, and Janet Joseph (Pathobiology). Silverio Johnson (Physics) was an invited research speaker and gave a short talk titled “Dilute swarmers have different run-and-tumble motility than planktonic swimmers in Enterobacter sp. SM3”
